Author Challenges Absurd Religion
(Kansas City, MO) September 10, 2007 - Something is missing in the War on Terrorism…. The church. “Religion has a strong voice of outrage against same sex marriages, but when another religion threatens to kill innocent people, it gets laryngitis…” Author and pastor, Steve Gray is making astonishing statements that ordinary people embrace while some in the religious system prohibit—to the point of censorship. First, through a 30-minute satirical television show and now his soon to be released book, My Absurd Religion, Steve Gray daringly says what millions of others are thinking.
- On Terrorism- “The American church is failing America in the war on terror by preaching an impotent God.”
- On Powerless Religion- “Religion in America has invented a God whose main weapon is psychology, to stand against a people that have no desire to talk things over.”
- On Morality- “Preaching morality without the power of God is absurd.”
- On the Pro-Israel Movement- “It s utter hypocrisy. My absurd religion interprets persecution of the Jews as a positive sign of the end times, so Christians have no motivation to stop it.
Steve Gray gives a daring inside look at the failures of traditional religion, how it got that way and what should be done about it. “My absurd religion offers spiritual bread and water while it gets fat preaching selfishness to a narcissistic generation,” states Gray.
No stranger to controversy, Gray’s 30-minute television show uses satire and spoofs to expose religious absurdities. The Steve and Kathy Show, winner of 29 Telly Awards in 2007, has been censored by major Christian networks and refused by others. “I created the program for the unchurched to enjoy and understand why religion has failed to provide even the minimal presence and power of God.” “Christianity says it wants to reach the world, you’d think they would want this program,” says Gray. “Religion persecutes anyone that bucks a system that only knows how to pat itself on the back.” Currently the show is aired in Kansas City and Tulsa on the CW channel and the Christian Television Network nationwide.
His purpose through the television show, the book and his church in Kansas City is to” show the average Joe and Jane of America that my religion is full of absurdities that cannot be fixed by handyman--style repairs. We need an overhaul. We need a real reformation. America can no longer afford a powerless religion that promotes a powerless God.” Gray added, “Religion becomes absurd when it loses its ability to diagnose its own problems. We need new leaders with bigger goals than cloning dead religion or becoming the next mega big shot.”
Gray is an ordained pastor of World Revival Church of Kansas City. He is an in-demand conference speaker, musician, published
author, and executive producer of The Steve and Kathy Show. “My Absurd Religion” is Gray’s fourth book. His first book,
“When the Kingdom Comes,” was released by Chosen Books, a Baker Book Division, in 1999. “Follow the Fire” was published
in 2001 by Charisma House. Interviewed by TIME Magazine, Newsweek, Charisma, and other national and international newspapers, Gray gives voice to
the failures of traditional Christianity while offering solutions to bring reform.
